Commuters rue construction projects as Doha turns into a parking lot

As residents return to Qatar in droves after the summer holidays, many have been dismayed to find their morning and evening commutes derailed by countless road construction projects.

One of the most congested areas is the Corniche, which has been reduced to one lane on each side as roundabouts are converted into signaled intersections.

Diversions are rife around this area, which is best avoided until construction is complete, ideally in November.

Traffic is only expected to get worse next week, when the majority of schools open and hundreds of thousands of students make their way to classes.
