Heavy traffic buildup on Feb. 22 Road as responders douse car fire

Car fire

Firefighters have responded to the scene of a car fire on February 22nd Road heading toward Madinat Khalifa (near the US Embassy) this afternoon.

According to the Ministry of Interior on Twitter, the fire has caused heavy traffic jams, but there are no injuries.

Residents near the scene reported seeing the fire before noon today:

Car fires become more common during Qatar’s hot summer months. According to the MOI, vehicles that are not well-maintained are more prone to catching fire because of potentially fluid leaks from the car.

When heat and electrical sparks combine with the car fluids, fires can start.
