Sheikha Al-Mayassa debuts on Forbes’ Most Powerful Women list at 100

Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani has been featured on Forbes Magazine’s Most Powerful Women list this year, rounding it out at 100.

The daughter of Qatar’s Emir, who is also the chairperson of the Qatar Museums Authority and the Doha Film Institute, commands an annual art-buying budget of $250 million, according to Forbes, and has previously been recognized as one of the art world’s most influential people.

It is Sheikha Al-Mayassa’s first appearance on the Forbes list, which was topped this year by the likes of Germany’s Angela Merkel and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Two other Arab women, both from the Gulf, also made the list: Shaikha Al Bahar, the chief executive officer of the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK), ranked 85th; and Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister Of Foreign Trade, who was 92nd.

Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the wife of the Emir and Sheikha Al-Mayassa’s mother, previously featured on the list in 2010.
