UN labor inspectors arrive in Qatar

A United Nations delegation is in Qatar today to investigate complaints that its sponsorship system facilitates “forced labor” by making it difficult for expats to leave abusive employers.

The International Labor Organization (ILO), which approved the visit in November, declined to discuss it with Doha News before the delegation reports back to the ILO Governing Body later this month. The ILO could decide at that session to establish a commission of inquiry, its highest investigative mechanism, to take a closer look at the complaint against Qatar.
